In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes seven statements about himself that creatively and clearly reveal his true identity, character and purpose. When we see Jesus more clearly, we can also expect to receive more clarity on our own identity, character and purpose. Rooted in Jesus’ own self-descriptions, we humans then find ourselves defined

Our invitation to our artists is to consider these statements that Jesus makes about himself:

I am the bread of life (John 6:25-59)

I am the light of the world (John 9:1-12)

I am the door for the sheep (John 10:1-10)

I am the good shepherd (John 10:11-18, 25-29)

I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:1-44)

I am the way, the truth and the life (John 14:5-14)

I am the true vine (John 15:1-17)

If you are a poet or painter, if you sketch, quilt, sculpt, or create any other form of visual or written art, we would invite you to share your work with us! This will be an informal show, on display in our lobby and auditorium for three weeks. If children or families wish to participate, they are also welcome to do so. There is no skill level required for participation — we simply want to receive our community's creative reflection on these statements that so powerfully reveal both who Jesus is and who we are.

Please note that we will also be hosting a reception for this exhibit on Sunday, November 1, from 1:00–2:30pm. There will be space for performing artists to share their work at this reception, and for all artists to introduce themselves, should they wish.

Questions can be directed to Kirsten Anonby.
